Slurping Turtle

Let's have a detour from NewYorkCity and stop by Chicago!
Just like NYC, Chicago has so many neighborhood gems that you don't want to miss!

Slurping Turtle is one my favorite food stops!  The meats are so flavorful and the noodle and soup base taste absolutely fantastic!

Inakaya

One of the very fine sashimi/sushi place in the city.

I find it interesting the way they serve food if you seat at the counter.  The chief will place the food at one end of a long stick and reach out to you

Kyotofu - Fall 2010

Do what you love and love what you do ..^‿^..

Kyotofu updates some of their menus for the season. Like the pumpkin and chestnut flavors on some desserts (yeah... it was way back to the Halloween)

However! Their famous cupcake (with variety of flavors) is all-year-round.
I get the green tea cupcake, which comes with a green tea & pumpkin flavor ice cream and some jam-like berries. The pumpkin flavor ice cream is quite special, although it kind of taking away the spotlight of the main character - green tea cupcake.

Then there is this Anmitsu. Azuki red bean, greatfruit agar and coffee agar, shiratama dango & kinako ice cream (there are choices between kinako ice cream and coconut ice cream) Since we don't know what kinako is, we pick the one we don't know ;P [from wiki: Kinako, aka soybean flour, is a product commonly used in Japanese cuisine. Kinako is produced by finely grinding roasted soybeans into powder] The first taste is weird, then it gets better :)

I also want to try their macaroon. Today the trio are Double Chestnut, Strawberry & Sesame. Sesame taste really good, crunchy out and chewy in. Strawberry is jelly inside. Chestnut however... can't taste much of chestnut.

A nice way to spend half of my afternoon. ..^‿^..

Shima Japanese Restaurant

The Black cod roll here caught my attention.
I love the Japanese style cod, so I definitely want to try it.

The White Tuna Tataki with giner, citrus soy sauce, the tuna tasted a little fishy... could be better

This is what I am talking about~ Altho the first bite tasted like an ell roll. I would just try their cod next time.

Tuna Guacamole, didn't taste as cute as it looks... >__<

Philadelphia (smoked salmon & cream cheese), salty.. well, because both ingredients are salty.

The restaurant has a pretty good review, I think I just ordered the wrong dishes...

Megu

Taking advantage of the extended restaurant week~ ..^‿^..

To be honest, I like their menu very much! But beware of these tailored portions.

The Sauteed Scallops with Foie Gras sauce. One of the best scallops I tasted ≧▽≦

Crispy "Kanzuri" Shrimp, mild spicy, the crust was little oily.

The Kobe Beef "Kagero" Filet Steak, the steak was set on the stone, and waiter pour the sauce in front of you so you see the flame (last only seconds). The meat itself was very tender and juicy, portion was SMALL, yet Kobe beef is a bargain at this price.

The Silver Cod with Yuzu Miso. As always, Japanese cod is my all time favorite ..^‿^.. Nicely sauteed.

Yuzu Chocolate Mousse Cake, unique yet combine so well with the chocolate!

Matcha Greentea Crepe, soft and creamy ♥

Playing with the magic of light!~ Cheers~
